Nobility crown MedinaApelido espanhol muito antigo, derivado de alguma das povoações de origem muçulmana, designadas Medinas, como Medina Sidónia, Medina del Campo,etc. Tiveram os Medinas Solares na Catalunha, Valência, e Baleares, sendo os mais antigos o de Villena, Alicante, onde tiveram o Senhorio de Benámer, em Cocentaina, ou o da Vila de Agrés, na mesma região, deste saíndo o Capitão de Ginetes D.Cristóbal de Medina que, com outros parentes, esteve na segunda conquista das Canárias em 1497. Daí passaram alguns Medinas à Ilha da Madeira, onde já em 1518 vivia Frei Diogo de Medina, célebre calígrafo que fez o primeiro Tombo da Câmara do Funchal. Em 1609 aí casava, na Igreja de S.Pedro, Pedro de Medina, militar da Fortaleza de S.Lourenço,e em 14.7.1651 era Inácio de Medina, nomeado Sargento-Mor de Ordenanças do Porto Santo. Mas a generalidade dos Medinas portugueses descendem de Manuel da Silva de Medina, casado na Sé do Funchal em 14.9.1670, com sua prima D.Mariana da Silva Távora, deles provindo os Medina de Vasconcellos, que aí e em Cabo Verde tiveram vários Morgados e ocuparam os principais cargos da governança das Ilhas. Dividiram-se em importantes ramos como os Medina, Medina Barbosa, Medina Monteiro de Macedo, Medina da Silva, etc.Outros, ainda, fixaram-se em Portugal no início do século XIX através de José Gregório Gonzalez de Medina, natural da Biscaia, casado com D.Maria del Carmen Valverde de Cid, progenitores dos Medina, do Porto, alguns dos quais passaram ao Brasil, fixando-se na Baía e Rio de Janeiro. ...
