El Emperador Carlomagno, hallándose en la dieta de Gerona, en 778, y viéndose dueño del territorio comprendido desde dicha ciudad a Narbona, para consevar todo lo conquistado dividió a Cataluña en nueve partes, que denominó Condados, estableciendo en cada uno de ellos y bajo la autoridad del Conde, un Vizcondado, una Nobleza y una Vervesoría. Quedaron, por lo tanto, rigiendo a Cataluña nueve Condes, nueve Vizcondes, nueve Nobles y nueve Vervesores. Una de esas nueve Vervesorías, que en 805 fué confirmada por el Rey Luis, fué la de Mediona, a la cual dió nombre un castillo sito dentro de la Conca de Odena, entre Villafranca del Penedés e Igualada, provincia de Barcelona. Dicho castillo daba nombre, a su vez, al pueblo que se extendía a sus pies y sobre el que ejercía su jurisdicción el Vervesor, así como en el de San Quintín de Mediola, edificado dentro de los términos de Vevesoría. El pueblo de M. desapareció y los Vervesores trasladaron su residencia a San Quintín, causa por la cual la Baronía o Vervesoría se denominó después de San Quintín de Mediona. Carlomagno dió la Vervesoría de que hablamos a Guillén de M., que se distinguió en la reconquista de Cataluña, especialmente en la batalla de la Marca, en la que el Jefe de la Caballería tomó el castillo de Mediona, que, antes que a los moros, había pertenecido a su familia; pero Carlomagno, al crear la Vervesoría, se reservó el dominio del castillo y sus términos, de manera que Guillén de M. y sus descendiente lo poseyeron. ...
