Nobility crown MerinoNo es de origen vasco, pero radicaron familias de este apellido en Laguardia (Álava) y en el Valle de Araiz, del partido de Pamplona (Navarra). De la casa alavesa de Laguardia fué Sancho Martínez Merino, que de legítimo matrimonio tuvo a Pedro Martínez Merino, que engendró a Sancho Martínez M., que casó con doña María Sáiz de Medrano, y fueron padres de Juan M. y Sáiz de Medrano, vecino de Laguardia, que sostuvo pleito de hidalguía en la Real Chancillería de Valladolid, resuelto en sentencia favorable el 12 de Diciembre de 1578. La casa navarra del Valle de Araiz se llamó de Meriorena y de ella fueron Señores Juan de Meriorena y su esposa doña Ana de M., que fudaron nueva casa en el lugar de Gaztelu, del partido de Pamplona. La Real Audiencia de esta ciudad dió, en 1780, sobrecarta a la Cédula de Asiento en Cortes que habían obtenido. A Navarra pasaron también algunos M. de la casa de este apellido en la villa de Ausejo, del partido de Calahorra (Rioja), casa que procedía del antigo solar de M., de la villa de Pesquera de Ebro, del partido de Sedano (Burgos). Otra casa muy antigua. Apellido castellano, extendido por toda le Península. Caballeros de este linaje probaron su nobleza en la Orden de Santiago, en la Real Chancillería de Valladolid y en las Juntas del Señorío de Vizcaya. Radicaron familias de este apellido en Laguardia (Álava) y en el Valle de Araiz, del partido de Pamplona en Navarra. ...
