O primeiro desta linhagem que se estabeleceu no Alentajo foi Don Fernando Rodriguez Mexia, comendador da o. de Santiago no reino de Leão (filho de Don Rodrigo Gozalez Mexia, que veio para Portugal no reinado d'el-Rei D. Fernando). Seu 11º neto Diogo Mexia Galvão, fidalgo da C. R., sargento-mór das ordenanças de Campo Maior (1735), casou com sua parenta D. Leonor Pereira Galvão, filha única de Francisco Vaz C., capitáo das ordenanças de Campo Maior, e de sua mulher D. Maria Galvão Carrasco Mexia. Um filho deste casal, Francisco Vaz Mexia C., sargento-mór das ordenanças de Campo Maior, familiar do Santo Ofício (1745), pagador geral do exército na guerra de 1762, vereador, juiz e provedor da Misericórdia de Campo Maior, etc., justificou a sua nobreza a 23.6.1750, para se lhe passar carta de brasão de armas de Mexias, e f. em 1766, tendo casado, em 1741, com sua parenta D. Isabel-Bernarda-Mexia Galvão, filha de Lourenço Lopes Galvão e mulher D. Brites-Bernarda Mexia. De Francisco Vaz Mexia C. e de sua mulher foi filho e sucessor Diogo Mexia Galvão C., fidalgo cavaleiro da C. R., sargento-mór das ordenanças de Campo Maior, provedor da sua Misericórdia, etc., o qual casou em segundas núpcias com D. Ana-Rita Caldeira Subtil Freire de Miranda, filha e herdeira de Manuel Caldeira Canelas, de Alpalhão, e mulher D. Rita-Joana Subtil Freira de Miranda. ...
