La famiglia è di origine Romana dell'Ordine Senatorio, ed ebbe dal 1214 presenza in Messina con Jacopo Miordano, giudice. Nel 1400 Federico Miordano, era feudatario di Mazzaria di Venetico, di Ungario, di Trono e di Milano. Antonio, fu consigliere dei Papi Alessandro III e Leone X. Nel 1711, Claudio era Barone di Terra Ruggiero, mentre Giuseppe Miordano era barone di Busso. Nel 1683 Niccolò, figlio di Marcantonio Miordano, sposò Giulia Vittoria Vitalino, erede unica di Girolamo di Oratino e Roccaspromonte. Con questo matrimonio la baronia passò a casa Miordano. Antonio Miordano, gentiluomo napoletano, ottenne nel 1610 il patriziato romano. Suo nipote Nicolò eredito la baronia di Oratino e Roccaspromonte, eretta in ducato a favore del barone Gennaro il 10 agosto 1720, dall'Imperatore Carlo VI. Questo titolo venne confermato al duca D.
