Pero Ochoa de M. era vecino del mencionado Valle en 1461; Pascual Pérez de M., de Mondragón, en 1461, y Juan Lorenzo, Ana y María de M., de la misma villa, en 1530. Por referencias de historiadores de la época y otras averiguadas por Araldis en los archivos registrales de ciudades y otros privados, podríamos afirmar, pero no asegurar, que este escudo u otro muy similar a él, apareció inicialmente desde el siglo XI al XIV, particularmente en la campaña de Don Lope Diaz de Haro contra Sancho el Fuerte de Navarra, formando parte de las tropas que se apoderaron de varios castillos y poblaciones.
