Noble y antiguo linaje catalán, cuyo primitivo solar radicó en la ciudad de Cervera (Lérida). Se extendió por le Principado, pasó a las islas de Cerdeña y de Mallorca, al reino de Valencia y a Chile. Según Zurita, tuvo también muy antiguo solar en la villa de Biescas (Huesca). En Cataluña crearon nueva casa en la ciudad de Barcelona, y sus individuos poseyeron el señorío de la villa de Gaver, en cuya iglesia parroquial de Santa María tuvieron enterramiento propio. Sus armas se veían en el retablo de San Eudaldo, de la mencionada parroquia, en los gonfalones antiguos y en el coro de la misma iglesia. Otro escudo había en la capilla del Rosario, de la parroquia de Nuestra Señora del Pino, de Barcelona. De la casa de la ciudad condal procedió Hipólito de M. señor de Gaver y del Consejo de S. M., que casó con doña Francisca de Solanell y Llupiá y fueron padres de Pedro de M. y Solanell, del Consejo de Su Majestad, que obtuvo privilegio de noble el 15 de septiembre de 1669 y se unió en matrimonio con doña Teresa de Zacosta y Sunyer, naciendo de este enlace Francisco de M. y Zacosta, esposo de doña Inés de Ramón y de Tort, a la que hizo madre de Baltasar de M. y Ramón, que tuvo por esposa a doña Teresa de Boneu y Llorach, en la que procreó a Teresa de M. y Boneu, que celebró su enlace con Francisco de Cárcer (hijo de José de Cárcer y de doña Ana Solá de Sant), naciendo de esta unión Mariano de Cárcer y de M. que casó con doña Josefa de Paguera y Vilalba. ...
