Tra le più insigni, antiche e Latine famiglie di Bova si rinviene la famiglia Morabbito, la quale, oltre l'antico splendore, seppe rendersi famosa, grazie agli elevati personaggi, singolari in dottrina e dignità, a cui diede i natali. L'origine di tal cognominizzazione, al dir di illustri genealogisti, andrebbe ricercata nel vocabolo arabo "murabit" (= colui che predica l'Islam nella via), con il significato di "santone". Giuseppe Pensabene, però, nelle sue note filologiche sugli antichi riferimenti religiosi nel territorio reggino, evidenzia che la provincia di Reggio Calabria fu sempre terra cristiana. "Morabito", pertanto, sarebbe un titolo onorifico, dato ai più valorosi, il cui significato sarebbe stato "abito, animo da bastione".
