Antichissimo il nome: in atti del notaro Lanfranco del 18 agosto 1214 compare fra altri mercanti piacentini residenti in Genova Giacomo Morando. Così in contratto di compare e vendita, notaro Giberto da Nervi 5 sett. 1275, è menzionato Oberto Morando. All'11 febb. 1278 Lucchetto di Percivale Morando costituisce suo procuratore Giacomo Morando per riscontrare dal Comune di Genova la paga dovutagli per la guardia fatta al Castello di Montalto (not. Giovanni de Corsio). Tommaso Morando di Levanto fu eletto nel 1346 dal doge Giovanni di Murta uno dei 4 provveditori di guerra contro i fuoriusciti e i ribelli di Monaco (vedi Giustiziani). Nello stesso anno Giacomo è capitano di galee nell'armata di Simone Vignoso.
