Nobility crown MurgasEste noble y antiguo linaje de las Vascongadas procede del de Salcedo y en su consecuencia, del de Ayala, ya que Don Sancho García de Salcedo, "El Negro", octavo Señor de Ayala, fué su progenitor. El solar de M., de parientes Mayores, Cabeza de Bando de los Gamboinos, radicó en la Torre de Murga, Valle de Ayala, hoy del partido judicial de Amurrio (Álava), distante un cuarto de legua de la que el Infante y Conde don Vela fundó y a media legua de la villa de Amurrio. Ese solar de M., después del de Ayala, es el más calificado de aquel Valle y provincia. Fué construída la Torre de Murga en 1272, y sus Señores estimaban tanto su apellido y calidad de Parientes Mayores, que nunca usaron los títulos del Reino que, por herencia o concesión real, obtuvieron, sin que esto significase menosprecio o alejamiento de la Corona, pues todos sirvieron con fidelidad y lealtad a sus Reyes, mereciendo de ellos especial aprecio. El apellido Muga fue el inicial, derivando en Murgas, usandose las dos formas indistintamente. Los Murgas poseyeron el patronato de las iglesias de San Juan de Murga, Santiago de la Rimbe, Santa María de Amurrio, y otras. El progenitor del linaje, como queda dicho, fué Sancho García de Salcedo "El Negro", octavo Señor de Ayala, que además de un hijo legítimo llamado Juan Sánchez de Salcedo, tuvo fuera de matrimonio a Juan Sánchez Chiquilin de M. y a una hija. Según algunos tratadistas, el hijo legítimo sucedió a su padre en el Señorío de Ayala, pero otros afirman que no le sobrevivió, por lo que heredó el estado de Ayala su hijo bastardo. Con el descubrimiento del Nuevo Mundo, muchos fueron los hombres y mujeres que cruzaron el Atlántico en busca de nuevos horizontes y en concreto los que portando el apellido Murgas, extendieron su linaje por América.
