Nobility crown NeiraApellido gallego, originario de la provincia de Lugo, en la que tuvo hidalgas y antiguas casas, particularmente en los partidos judiciales de Becerreá y de Sarria. En esos partidos hay varias parroquias denominadas Neira (una de ellas con Ayuntamiento, la de Neira de Jusá), cuyos nombres están sin duda alguna relacionados con el del linaje. Algunos tratadistas, aficionados a la fábula y a la leyenda, dicen que es tan antiguo en Galicia el apellido N., que su origen se oculta en la oscuridad de remotos tiempos, pero que se sabe, sin embargo, que ya florecía en aquella tierra antes de la invasión de España por los moros. Agregan que uno de sus primeros caballeros fué Sancho de N., esforzado Capitán que defendió de los agarenos una extensa comarca bañada por el río Arce, al que llamaron desde entonces río Neira en recuerdo de las hazañas de dicho Capitán, y a sus márgenes, Riva de Neira, nombre este último que tomó por apellido otra familia originaria de aquella comarca. Finalmente manifiestan los aludidos tratadistas, por haberlo leído en antiguas crónicas, que el citado guerrero Sancho de N., era descendiente de Darto (aunque reconocen que las tales crónicas no puntualizan si se trata del famoso Darto, Rey de Persia) y que antes de pelear contra los moros ya se había distinguido por su arrojo y valentía, dando muerte a una terrible serpiente que asolaba y despoblaba aquel territorio. Este último detalle bastaria para patentizar lo fabuloso y lo falso de la versión. Otra casa muy antigua. Apellido gallego. Se extendió por Andalucía y Canarias. Probó su nobleza en las Ordenes de Santiago, Alcántara, San Juan de Jerusalén, en la Real Audiencia de Oviedo y en la Real Chancillería de Valladolid. ...
