Noble y antiguo linaje de Cataluña. Tuvo casas en la villa de Tárrega del partido judicial de Cervera (Lérida), y en la villa de Plá, del partido de Valls (Tarragona).Una de sus ramas se apellido N. de Cardona, por haber entroncado con esta ilustre familia, y tuvo línea en la ciudad de Almería. A esta línea pertenecieron: Lorenzo José N. de Cardona, que fue nombrado comisario general de cruzada, el 20 de agosto de 1706. Francisco N. de Cardona, nombrado regidor de Almería, el 11 de diciembre de 1732. Pedro N. de Cardona, que reclamó poder llevar a las sesiones del Consejo espada y daga, o espadín, como le correspondía por sus honores y preeminencias, lo que fue resuelto de acuerdo con su petición por real provisión de 1748. Figuró en el padrón de nobles formado en 1731 por el ayuntamieno de Almería, en virtud de Orden del Concejo, para la excepción de contribución de paja y utensilios, según consta en el libro capitular del indicado año, figurando en las listas con el número 31. Pedro, su hijo, sustituyéndole en el municipio con igual privilegio, confirmado en 1788, el cual aún vivía y era vecino de la ciudad en 1810. Rafael N. de Cardona, que en 1836 representaba al distrito de Purchena en la junta de armamento y defensa que se constituyó el 11 de septiembre. Antonio María N. de Cardona, que fue regidor en 1833 y 1840, y diputado provincial en 1843 y 1855, y Francisco N. de Cardona y Sierra, hijo del anterior, que era teniente alcade en 1867. ...
