En la Montaña de Santander, enclavado en la jurisdicción del Ayuntamiento del Valle de Alfoz de Lloredo, perteneciente al partido judicial de San Vicente de la Barquera, está el pueblo de Oreña, del que proceden los de este linaje y cuyo nombre tomaron por apellido. En dicho pueblo tuvo su primitivo solar, del que salieron ramas que fundaron nuevas casas en San Vicente de la Barquera y en los lugares de Novales y Rudagüera, pertenecientes también al Ayuntamiento del Valle de Alfoz de Lloredo. La rama troncal de esta primitiva casa solariega del apellido O., permaneció residiendo en el lugar de este nombre hasta los actuales tiempos, pero sus datos genealógicos conocidos arrancan solamente de principios del siglo XVIII con Manuel de O., natural de Oreña y allí empadronado con su mujer doña Catalina Vela, en 1750. Tuvieron estos hijos: Francisco de O. Vela, que vivió casado con doña Dominga Martínez en el barrio de Caborredondo; Domingo de O. Vela, que sigue; y Manuel de O. Vela, marido de doña Ana María Bracho. Domingo de O. Vela nació en Oreña en 1728 y contrajo matrimonio con doña María Ramos y Cayuso (hija de Lorenzo Ramos y de doña María Cayuso), que testó ante Manuel Santos, Escribano de la Abadía de Santillana, y falleció en 1781. Su marido don Domingo murió en 1790. Fueron padres de José, Diego, Manuela, Domingo, Francisca, Teresa y Antonia de O. y Ramos. Diego de O. y Ramos, nació en Oreña, siendo allí bautizado el 7 de Julio de 1764. ...
