El origen de este linaje es absolutamente guipuzcoano, según afirma Alfredo Basanta, Y en el "Nobiliario de Armas y Apellidos Guipúzcoanos", que se halla en la Biblioteca Nacional de Madrid, se dice: "La casa solariega del apellido O, que está situada en la villa de Idiazábal, de la provincia de Guipúzcoa, es infanzonada, y, como tal, no reconoce superioridad a otra alguna de este linaje y apellido, porque encierra en sí cuantos requisitos y adminículos, proezas, y lauros y ventajosos aplausos de calidad, nobleza y limpieza se pueden atribuir a cuantos hay así en la provincia de Vizcaya, como las de todo el orbe". De ese primitivo solar de la villa de Idiazábal irradiaron los de este apellido, creando nuevos solares en Cerain, del partido de Azpéitia, y en Legazpia, del de Vergara. Uno de la casa de Cerain pasó después al lugar de Zalduendo, tierra de Ayala, en Álava. Se llamó Andrés de O. y había nacido en Cerain el 28 de Noviembre de 1747. Casó con doña Juliana Sáenz de Asteasu, y al avecindarse en Zalduendo probó su nobleza, obteniendo sentencia confirmatoria en la Chancilería de Valladolid el 9 de Junio de 1785. Otra casa hubo en la villa de Legorreta, del Partido de Tolosa. Juan Carlos de Guerra manifiesta que este linaje es antiquísimo en Guipúzcoa y que de él se derivó el Arriarán, de Cabo Armería y Pariente Mayor del bando oñacino, en la Alcaldía de Areria. Lope García de O. era Señor de Arriarán en 1309, sirvió al Rey don Fernando IV de Castilla. ...
