Linaje originario del lugar y Ayuntamiento de Valle de Mena, perteneciente al partido judicial de Villarcayo, en la provincia de Burgos. Allí tuvo su primitivo solar, del que dimanaron las ramas que fundaron nuevas casas en el lugar de Costera, sito en el Valle de Llanteno, Ayuntamiento de Ayala y partido judicial de Amurrio (Álava); en la ciudad de Orduña, del partido judicial de Valmaseda (Vizcaya), y en dicha villa de Valmaseda. Fray Francisco Lozano hace mención de otra casa de O. que estuvo sita en las Asturias de Santillana (Santander), en la raya con las Asturias de Oviedo. Del solar del lugar burgalés de Valle de Mena, descendió Iñigo O. de Velasco, natural de Valle de Mena, que vivía en mediados del siglo XVI. Casó con doña María de Salazar, natural de Orduña, quedando establecidos en esta ciudad vizcaína. Fueron padres de Iñigo O. de Velasco y Salazar, natural de Orduña, que contrajo matrimonio con doña Isabel de Avendaño y Gamboa, natural de Bilbao (hija de Juan de Avendaño y Gamboa y de doña María de Bilbao, naturales de Bilbao), naciendo de ese enlace Alonso O. de Velasco Avendaño, natural y vecino de Orduña y Caballero de la Orden de Santiago, en la que ingresó el 16 de Julio de 1625. En su expediente de pruebas de nobleza se dice que nació en Bilbao, pero en el de su nieto Iñigo figura como nacido en Orduña. Casó con doña María Hurtado de la Puente, natural de Sevilla. Procrearon a José O. de Velasco y de la Puente, natural de Sevilla. ...
