L'origine di tal cognominizzazione, al dir di autorevoli genealogisti, andrebbe ricercata nel lemma italiano antico "parlato", oggi "prelato"; possiamo pertanto ipotizzare che il capostipite della famiglia fosse stato un uomo di chiesa e di elevate virtù.
