Famiglia assai antica e nobile, originaria di Pontevedra, in Spagna, detta Pedrazzi, Pedraz o Pedraza, propagatasi in Lombardia sin dal XIV secolo secolo e, successivamente, in diverse regioni d'Italia. Nel 1400 la famiglia passò a stabilirsi in Padova, ove fu ammessa a quel nobile Consiglio, per meriti e virtù dei suoi componenti. Anche dopo il Decreto di riforma dell'ex-Veneto Senato del 1635, fu formalmente ritenuta tra le famiglie nobili aggregate a quel Consiglio, e vi continuò sino alla sua cessazione. Inoltre, la presenza dell'arma e del motto nella bibliografia documentata della famiglia Pedrazzi ci conferma l'avita nobiltà raggiunta dalla casata. Infatti l'origine del motto risale a circa il XIV secolo e deve essere ricercata in quei detti arguti che venivano scritti sui vessilli o bandiere dei cavalieri, esposti alle finestre delle locande in cui questi alloggiavano, in occasione dei tornei, e durante i tornei stessi.
