Come riporta Antonio Manno, la famiglia fu detta nei tempi Peracchio, Perazzi o Perassi. Come riporta J.B. Rietstap, la famiglia è stata investita anche del titolo comitale sopra Villaralmese, in data 7 agosto 1660. Ma le prime memorie della famiglia rimontano al secolo decimo primo, quando viveva un Giuseppe che, avendo militato valorosamente sotto le bandiere di Corrado contro i Mori, riportò da quell'imperatore il glorioso cimiero di un cane d'argento che arde tra le fiamme. Nello stesso secolo Pietrino e Guglielmo governarono il Monferrato a nome del suo marchese e ne furono rimunerati con l'investitura del feudo di Castelvecchio.
