Encontramos dos versiones distintas sobre el origen de este apellido, ambas igualmente autorizadas y robustecidas con datos de indudable garantía, pero tan contradictorias que hoy sería empresa vana pretender señalar la verdadera con pruebas que no dejasen lugar a dudas. Las dos arrancan de tiempos muy antiguos, y esto oscurece y dificulta su esclarecimiento. Según una de esas versiones, el apellido P. es aragonés y originario de la villa de P. (cuyo nombre tomó), perteneciente en la actualidad al partido judicial de Sariñena y provincia de Huesca. Según la otra, procede del Condado de Rosellón, donde tuvo su solar y casa. Los P. de Aragón pasaron a Valencia y Cataluña. Los de Rosellón también pasaron a dichas regiones. Mosén Jaime Febrer, en sus Trovas, menciona al caballero Juan P. y afirma que vino del Rosellón a España para servir al rey don Jaime I de Aragón en sus guerras contra los moros. Esa procedencia del citado caballero, admitida y consignada por cronista de tan evidente autoridad, merece ser tenida en cuenta. Mosén Jaime Febrer era ahijado de dicho monarca e hijo de mosén Guillén Febrer, veedor del ejército de don Jaime I y designado por éste, por ser persona de su mayor afecto y confianza, para llevar las listas de todo su ejército en lo relativo al pago y ración de cada soldado, y para formar la nómina de los nobles y sujetos de distinción que desde los dominios del monarca y de otros extraños, acudían voluntariamente a ayudarle en la conquista de Valencia. ...
