Apellido de origen castellano, que se estableció en Canarias y entroncó con la Casa de Verdugo. Don Juan P. del Río y Jaques de Mesa, Caballero Mayorazgo de su Casa, Coronel de Milicias, estuvo casado con Doña María Magdalena de Quintana Venegas y Aguilar, siendo padres de Doña Felipa P. Quintana Jaques y Venegas, que contrajo matrimonio el 27 de mayo de 1825, con Don Manuel José Verdugo de Alviturría y Machado de la Guerra, II del nombre, Capitán de Milicias del Regimiento Provincial de Telde y Regidor perpetuo por juro de heredad del antiguo Cabildo de Gran Canaria. De este matrimonio nacieron tres hijos: Don Santiago Verdugo P. II del nombre, Teniente Coronel y General del Real Cuerpo de Artillería y Primer Jefe del Batallón de Canarias. Nació el 25 de noviembre de 1831 y casó en la villa de La Orotava el 15 de enero de 1869, con Doña María Nicolasa García de Llarena de Lugo y de Casabuena. No tuvieron descendencia. Doña Francisca Verdugo y Pestana, nacida el 16 de noviembre de 1825, que casó dos veces: la primera con su tío, hermano de su padre, el Capitán de Artillería Don Gonzalo Verdugo y Machado y la segunda en Madrid, con Don Isidro de Salazar y Alonso del Rivero, Abogado de los Tribunales. Doña Amalia Teotiste Verdugo y P., que nació el 10 de noviembre de 1828 y casó con el Capitán de Infantería Don José Hipólito Verdugo y P., su primo hermano y tío. Al enviudar en 1852, profesó en el Monasterio de las Salesas Reales de Madrid. ...
