La chiara nobiltà della famiglia risulta confermata dalla sua presenza nella pregevole opera "Il Blasonario Subalpino" di Antonio Manno. Il primo personaggio appartenente a tal casata, di cui abbiamo notizia certa, è un Massimo , il quale prese in moglie (Torino, S. Maria, 26 maggio 1586) la nobildonna Angelica Balbo di Bonavalle, esponente di una delle più nobili famiglie piemontesi. D'altronde, tal famiglia, nel dispiegarsi dei lustri, sempre è riuscita a produrre una serie di uomini che resero illustre il suo nome, nei pubblici impieghi, nelle professioni liberali ed ecclesiastiche e nel servizio militare.
