Nobility crown Pita Da VeigaAntiguo linaje de Galicia. Tuvo su casa solar en la vega de la villa de Puentedéume (La Coruña) por lo que sus descendientes se apellidaron P. da Veiga, o de la Vega. De esa casa fué hijo Alonso P. da Veiga, gran soldado que sirvió a los Reyes Católicos y al Emperador Carlos V en las guerras de Italia y Francia, destacándose por su valor, muy especialmente en las batallas de Bicera y de Gatinara contra los ejércitos franceses y luego en la de Pavía. En esta última peleó con tal denuedo, que primero rescató el estandarte real del Infante don Hernando, Rey de Hungría, que habían tomado los francese tras de matar al Alférez que lo llevaba, y después logró salvar la vida y apresar al Rey don Francisco I, mereciendo que éste, ocho días después de su prisión, le expresara su gratitud en una certificación escrita por su mano, que decía así: "Francisco, por la gracia de Dios Rey de Francia: Hacemos saber a todos y cualesquiera que perteneciere, que Alonso P. fué de los primeros que se hallaron en nuestra prisión cuando fuimos hechos prisioneros delante de Pavía. Y de su ayuda y poder nos asistió a salvar la vida, de que le somos atentos. Y por que es así la verdad hemos firmado de nuestra mano en Piscolona 4 de Marzo de 1525. -Francisco". Carlos V premió los grandes servicios que Alonso P. da Veiga le había prestado, concediéndole el escudo de armas. ...
