Ritenuta originaria di Francia, la Famiglia Poma si stabilì dapprima nella Sicilia orientale, quindi in Erice, con un Pietro, ascritto al Patriziato cittadino nel 1420, suddividendosi nel corso dei secoli in differenti rami. Uno di questi, sul finire del 1500, prese dimora a Calatafimi, con un Fabio. Da costui discese Filippo il quale, il 3 ottobre 1605, sposò Brigida Castiglione dalla quale ebbe due figli: Giuseppe e Francesco. Giuseppe si trasferì a Trapani ove, il 7 gennaio 1649, condusse il moglie Francesca Conti. Da questo matrimonio nacquero Filippo, Concetta e Saveria. Filippo nato il 25 giugno 1672 fu colui che maggiormente illustrò questa linea. Datosi con alacrità d'animo agli studi si laureò in utroque iure e tenne in Trapani con moltissima lode l'ufficio di Giudice del Magistrato.
