Les Pontard, qualifiés nobles citoyens de Périgueux, sont venus en Périgord de La Rochelle, où ils occupaient les prèmieres charges municipales dès la fin du XVème siècle et dès le commencement du XVIème. Un Hugues Pontard, procureur du Roi à La Rochelle, eut pour fils François de Teuil-Charois, qui fut maire de la ville de La Rochelle, en 1557. Un autre Hugues, greffier de la terre et juridiction de St-Privat, en Périgord, fut nommé par provision, en 1544, tuteur des enfants mineurs de feu Louis Talleyrand, écuyer (Archives de la Dordogne). Le 8 juillet 1725, des lettres de bourgeoisie furent accordées à un François Pontard, natif de Saint-Privat, par les maire et consuls de Périgueux, signées d'Alesme, maire, de Garde, Gilles, consuls, et autres consuls. Le 25 novembre 1766, un brevet de place au collège de Périgord, à Toulouse, fut accordé à Jean-Baptiste Pontard, il est signé du roi Louis XV et contresigné Philippeaux. Le 27 mai 1781, date de l'enregistrement au parlement de Bourdeaux des provisions de l'Etat d'office de conseiller au sénéchal et présidial de Périgueux accordées par le Roi, à Jean-Baptiste Pontard, avocat au parlement. Le 6 février 1795, Jean-Baptiste Pontard, noble citoyen de Périgueux, épousa demoiselle Marguerite de Labrousse au lieu du Petit-Paradis, paroisse de St-Martin, à Périgueux. Sur un acte de décès du 8 juin 1761, il est dit que J.-B. Pontard, de la compagnie de Chambeaud, ci-devant St-Vincent, au régiment de Guienne, mourut à l'hopital de Québec, la cuisse emportée par un boulet. ...
