Nobility crown PorteroJuan de Mendoza escribe que este apellido lo trajeron de Francia a Cataluña caballeros que acompañaron a Carlomagno en la campaña de aquel Principado y que hicieron su asiento en Barcelona, donde florecieron apellidándose Porter. Agrega que más tarde pasaron a Aragón y Castilla, añadiendo la vocal "o" que convirtió el apellido Porter en el de P., por lo que ambos son uno mismo. Los oscuros y lejanos tiempos a que remonta el citado autor el origen francés de este linaje, es natural que nos inclinen a restar crédito a sus noticias. La familia P. es castellana y tuvo casa solariega en la villa de Cantalapiedra, del partido judicial de Peñaranda y provincia de Salamanca. En fines del siglo XVI pertenecía a esa casa Alonso P., natural de Cantalapiedra, que en su mujer, doña María Nieto, de la misma naturaleza, tuvo este hijo Francisco P. Nieto, natural de Cantalapiedra, que contrajo matrimonio con doña Mariana de Castroverde, natural de Madrid (hija de Pedro de Castroverde y de doña Catalina de Vargas, vecinos de Madrid). Se avecindaron en la villa de Mahora, del partido judicial de Casas Ibáñez y provincia de Albacete, y fueron padres de Francisco P. de Vargas, natural de Mahora, Regidor perpetuo de Madrid, vecino de la villa y Corte, Familiar del Santo Oficio de la Inquisición de Toledo, Alcaide del castillo y fortaleza de la ciudad de Chinchilla (Albacete) y Caballero de la Orden de Sanitag, en la que ingresó el 14 de Julio de 1663. ...
