Le memorie documentali risalgono a Giovanni, capitano in Roma, e a Battista, dottore e letterato, nato nella prima metà del secolo XIV. Prospero, di Cesare, di Vittorio, di Mattia, di Battista, e di Anna Spada, figlia di Onorio Spada, creato conte dall'imperatore Carlo V nel 1533, dottore e diplomatico, riceveva da Ferdinando II imperatore, con chirografo segnato in Vienna il 24 marzo 1554, il titolo di conte palatino trasmissibile ai discendenti legittimi e naturali di ambo i sessi per continuata linea retta mascolina. Dopo aver trattato importanti affari per incarico del pontefice urbano VIII e del cardinale Francesco Barberini, e dopo aver seduto nei tribunali di Roma e di Bologna, fu luogotenente generale del cardinale legato a latere in Perugia. Interzato in fascia; nel 1° di verde, al monte di tre cime d'oro, sormontato da una colomba d'argento, rivolta e tenente nel becco un ramo d'olivo al naturale, sinistrata da una cometa d'oro, colla coda volta a destra; nel 2° inquartato d'azzurro e di rosso, con un giglio d'oro sul primo, ed una stella di otto raggi dello stesso nel secondo; colla colonna d'argento, coronata d'oro, in palo, attraversante sulla partizione; nel 3° di verde, alla colomba d'argento, avente nel becco un ramoscello d'olivo al naturale, e posata sopra un piccolo tronco d' oro, posto in banda.
