En unas minutas del cronista Juan Alfonso de Guerra, a las que hace referencia Piferrer, se dice que este linaje procede de los estados de Flandes y que desde tiempo inmemorial tuvo su asiento en las inmediaciones del Condado de Pontien, de donde pasó a España en tiempos antiguos. La rama que lo trajo a España radicó en la provincia de León, principalmente en la villa de Palacios de Valduerna, del partido judicial de La Bañeza, en la que se mantuvo por mucho tiempo, siendo reconocidos sus individuos como hijodalgo notorio de sangre con casa solar y de armería. En principios del siglo XVIII moraba una línea de esta familia en la villa de Adamuz, del partido judicial de Montoro y provincia de Córdoba, y a esa línea perteneció María Apolonia P., natural de Adamuz, que casó con Pedro Madueño Palomares, natural de Montoro, y tuvieron este hijo Juan Antonio Madueño P., natural de Adamuz, que contrajo matrimonio con doña Juana Criado Cantero, natural de Montoro, naciendo de esta unión José M. Criado P., bautizado en Montoro el 17 de Febrero de 1776, que vistió el hábito de la Orden de San Juan, en el gran Priorato de Cataluña, en 1798. Otra línea de este linaje pasó a México y de ella fué don José Villamil y P., Maestrante de Ronda, Caballero de Calatrava y representante de una de las más antiguas familias de Nueva España, descendiente de los conquistadores por línea paterna y por la materna de los Marqueses de Falces.
