Desde los tiempos de don Jaime de Aragón figuran los caballeros P. con acusado relieve en las historias de aquel reino, por los muchos y buenos servicios que prestaron a los Monarcas aragoneses. Su linaje, en realidad, no era aragonés. Había tenido su cuna en la isla y ciudad de Proxita, entre Sicilia y Nápoles, y del nombre de aquéllas se derivó el apellido. Pero por haber venido a servir a don Jaime I el progenitor de la rama y familia aragonesa y haber sido heredado en Aragón, así como sus sucesores, los cuales enlazaron prontamente con nobles casas aragonesas y siguieron, ya naturalizados allí, al servicio de aquellos Reyes, como aragonés está considerado este linaje, justificándolo su mucha antigüedad en Aragón. Los dos primeros caballeros P. que mencionan las historias, son éstos: Juan de P., con quien comienza la genealogía, y Pedro P. de quien dice Mosén Jaime Febrer que intervino en la embajada que concertó con el Rey don Jaime I el matrimonio de su hijo don Pedro III con doña Constanza, hija de Manfredo, Rey de Sicilia. Y añade, dirigiéndose a don Jaime I y recomendándoselo: "Es hombre de gran reputación, pues sin obstáculo alguno envió los despachos; espero que le haréis presto merced, honrado su familia para gozar de más preeminencias donde se domicilie". Juan de P., anteriormente citado, era Señor de la isla y ciudad de Proxita en el reinado Manfredo, de Sicilia, y fué uno de los caballeros que vinieron a la conquista de la ciudad y reino de Valencia. ...
