Linaje noble de la Montaña de Santander. En esta ciudad tuvo su más antigua casa solariega, que reconocía por su fundador al Conde don Gutiérre Ruiz, de la casa de Lare, y tomó el apellido de P. en tiempos de Toribio Ruiz Gutiérrez de la P., de quién habla la Crónica del Rey don Juan II de Castilla, año 1441. Así lo dice Escagedo Salmón en su "Crónica de la Provincia de Santander". Pero el mismo autor, en sus "Solares Montañeses" escribe: "La noticia más antigua que poseo de este apellido es la de don Diego de Salazar, que casó en Santander con doña Catalina Sánchez de Saro, y vivían en la Puebla de Arriba. Consta en el testamento de su nieto Hernando de la P., y según ésto el apellido de P. fué tomado del sitio que ocupó la casa de don Diego de Salazar". En el testamento a que hemos aludido, no se menciona el nombre del hijo y sucesor de los esposos don Diego de Salazar y doña Catalina Sánchez de Saro. Tal vez lo fuera el Toribio Ruiz Gutiérrez de la P., en cuyo tiempo tomó esta casa el apellido de P., ya que en los descendientes de esta rama se repite el nombre de Toribio; pero se afirma que fué nieto de aquellos Hernando de la P., que testó el Santander el 1 de Septiembre de 1546 y fundó el pimer vínculo de la casa. Había casado en dicha ciudad con doña María Fernández de Pámanes, en quien tuvo estos hijos: Jerónimo de la P., que sigue; Toirbio de la P.; Juan de la P.; Francisco Gutierrez de la P.; y Hernando, Pedro, María, Catalina, Isabel y Constanza de la P. Pámanes. Otra casa muy antigua. Juan Ortiz de la P., natural de Sevilla, hijo de Cristóbal Gallegos y de doña María Ortiz, con María Ortiz, natural de Castilleja del Campo, hija de Franscisco Ortiz y de Leonor Rodríguez, y sus hijos Cristóbal, Nicolás, Ana y Bartolomé, emprendió viaje a Quito el 9 diciembre 1578 desde el puerto de Sevilla, según consta en el Archivo ...
