Este apellido es netamente catalán, con casa en la ciudad de Barcelona, aunque algún autor dice que es originario de Asturias, concretamente de Gijón, de donde pasó a Cataluña. Por los años de 1351, en tiempos del rey don Pedro I de Castilla, se trasladó a Murcia, desde Barcelona, una línea de este linaje, quedando allí establecida y apareciendo apellidada P. en todos los documentos relacionados con ella. El primer P. que aparece en los libros anuales de la ciudad de Murcia, es Gabriel de P., dueño de las casas contiguas a las episcopales. Fué Regidor de Murcia y Juez de Apelaciones en 1395, y Jurado por los hijosdalgo en 1398, y nuevamente Regidor en 1403 y 1410. Casó con doña Blanca Martínez y tuvieron este hijo: Pedro P., que contrajo matrimonio con doña Francisca de Soto (hija de Rodrigo de Soto y de doña Catalina de Cascales, Señora de la Puebla, en la huerta de Murcia), naciendo de esa unión Rodrigo de P. y Soto, que sigue, y Catalina de P. y Soto, mujer de Alonso Vozmediano de Arroniz, Capitán General, Alcaide de Bugía y Señor del lugar de Añora. Sin sucesión. Rodrigo de P., y Soto fué caballero de mucha autoridad y de la Orden de Santiago. En servicio del Emperador Carlos V se halló en la batalla de Orihuela contra la Germanía y en el socorro de Perpiñán. En su tiempo, año 1545, se desbordó el río Segura, arrasando muchas tieras y casas de la huerta murciana. Reunió entonces a sus desgraciados moradores este don Rodrigo, y con ellos pobló el lugar de la Puebla. ...
