Conforme alguns autores, provém de Gonçalo Anes R. casado com Ana de Gouveia, filha de João de Gouveia, senhor de Valhelhas, Almendra, Castelo Melhor, Castelo Bom, etc. e de su mulher, Leonor Gonçalves de Ataíde dos quais procedem os R. de Queirós, conforme parece, porquanto a origem dos R. não se conhece ae a sua ligação com os Queiroses é apresentada de vários modos. O apelido, pela ausêncis de preposição mostra vir de alcunha. Assinalam-lhe por armas: Esquartelado; o primeiro e o quarto de prata, com seis crescentes de vermelho, postos 2, 2 e 2; o segundo e o terceiro também de prata, com um leão de púrpura. Timbre: O leão do escudo. Estas armas são as de Queirós que vinham a Ana de Gouveia por sua avó paterna. Leonor Álvares de Queirós, filha de Fernão Álvares de Queirós fidalgo galego, que passou a Portugal e aqui teve o senhorio de muitas terras, entre elas a de Valhelhas. A diferença de o leão ser de púrpura em vez de vermelho não é propositada, mas resultante da confusão que no século XIX se fazia entre as duas cores, pelo que não se devem considerar armas, própias do apelido. Só ramos ligados aos Queiroses podem usa as destes e conforme vão descritas em Queirós pois as outras se devem ter por adulteração e portanto, inexistentes. ...
