Nobility crown RanchonCe nom est ancien, dans le mandement de Vernoux sa filiation commence par une famille dont la dernière héritiére Catherine épousa, le 10 octobre 1508, Jean Astier, de la paroisse de Saint-Michel de Chabrillanoux, lequel vint se fixer au mas du Ranc, dont le nom lui est quelquefois donné et fut porté par ses descendants. Leur arrière-petit-fils François est qualifié noble dans l'acte du 29 juin 1596 par lequel le prieur de Vernoux lui fit cession de tous les droits de seigneurie et juridiction qu'il avait sur le mas du Ranc. Il fut châtelain de la terre de Boffres, poste qu'avait déjà occupé son père. Il avait épousé, le 30 octobre 1584, Gasparde de Geyssans ou Gessans, dame du château et fief de Joux, en la paroisse de Tence, au pays de Velay. Cette famille justifia sa noblesse devant les commissaires des francs-fiefs, au diocèse du Puy. Noble Jean-François, seigneur de joux, épousa Marie de Chasaux, laquelle n'eut qu'une fille Marie-Anne de joux. Devenue veuve, elle se remaria, le 3 septembre 1732, à Jean-Joseph de La Fayolle, lors veuf d'Eléonore Vigne et père de Jean-Baptiste de La Fayolle, sieur de Mars. La dite Marie de Chasaux fit épouser celui-ci à ladite Marie-Anne de Joux, sa fille, par contrat du 9 février 1748. ...
