Queda apuntado que en Aragón es donde aparece con mayor antigüedad el apellido que nos ocupa. Mosén Jaime Febrer, en sus Trovas, nombra al caballero aragonés Alonso R., afirmando que fue muy conocido en Huesca y Jaca, de donde pasó a la conquista del reino de Valencia. El rey don Jaime I de Aragón le envió a Toledo para ordenar el modo de hacer la guerra a los rebeldes de Murcia. Y en su elogio, agrega el citado cronista: "Nada le embarazó en esta comisión, pues lo compuso todo a satisfacción del Monarca, y volvióse a su casa. Consiguióle el Rey muchas heredades en Altea (villa de la provincia de Alicante) y hoy goza de dignidad de Ricohombre". Gaspare Escolano en sus Décadas de la Historia de la Insigne y Coronada Ciudad y Reino de Valencia, se refiere a tres varones muy señalados del linaje de R. en Valencia. El primero, escribe, fue don Rodrigo R., que defendió valerosamente al rey don Alfonso V en la batalla naval que perdió con los genoveses. Después fue camarero mayor de don Juan II, hermano del anterior monarca, y muy privado suyo. Y cuando don Juan II falleció en Barcelona, se designó a dicho don Rodrigo para presidir y ejecutar la ceremonia que en aquellos tiempos solía efectuarse en tales actos y que consistía en que el caballero designado, al ser sacado el cadáver para llevarlo a enterrar, pidiese los sellos reales al protonotario y secretarios y los quebrase con sus manos, diciendo tres veces con emocionada y potente voz: "El rey ha muerto". ...
