Nobility crown RenoudAncienne chevalerie d'Auvergne, possessionnée et alliée en Velay. Un prieur de Bredon (1240); un commandeur de l'ordre du Temple (1241); un commandeur des hospitaliers de St-Jean de Jérusalem (1327); un gentilhomme ordinaire de la chambre du roi (1583); un page de la petite écurie du roi Louis XVI (1781); de nombreux chanoines-comtes de Brioude, etc.. Maintenue dans sa noblesse en Auvergne le 27 mai 1668, sur preuves remontant à Bertrand, chevalier, seigneur du dit lieu (1305). Quoique originaire de l'Auvergne, ce nom n'est pas tout à fait étranger à I'histoire du Velay. On trouve en effet en octobre 1637, Charles commandant une des quatre compagnies d'hommes d'armes que le vicomte de Polignac fit entrer au Puy par la porte St-Gilles et qui y séjournèrent pendant une semaine, malgré l'opposition très vive des habitants. En 1640, Charles se rendit acquéreur de l'une des deux nouvelles charges de conseiller en la sénéchaussée du Puy qui venaient d'être crées. Le 9 septembre 1647, Antoine père et Charles fils, furent, avec Claude Gay de la Blache et François Gay de Lérèze, pendus en effigie à la potence du Martouret 'pour avoir, étant capitaines, logé leurs cornpagnies dans des lieux et terres, sans avoir ordre ni commission de ce faire et fait d'autres extorsions'. ...
