Nobility crown RetesArranca este antiguo y noble linaje alavés de la llamada tierra de Ayala, y se tiene por cierto que su primitivo solar radicó en el lugar de Retes de Llanteno (cuyo primer nombre tomó por apellido), perteneciente al Ayuntamiento de Ayala y partido judicial de Vitoria. También tuvo casa de notoria antigüedad en el lugar de Retes de Junto a Tudela, que pertenece al Ayuntamiento de la villa de Arciniega, en el partido judicial de Amurrio (Álava), y existen dudas sobre si ese nuevo lugar fué la cuna del linaje y el que dió origen al apellido, o si el nombre que ella se lo dió una rama derivada del solar de Retes de Llanteno, que a dicho lugar pasara, quedando en él radicada. Esto último aparece como lo más probable, aunque sin disipar la duda expuesta. De esas primitias casas salieron las ramas que se establecieron en la villa de Arciniega y en el lugar de Beotegui, éste del Ayuntamiento de Ayala; la que moró en Bilbao, las que se extendieron por las Encartaciones de Vizcaya, la que hizo su asiento en el Valle Real de Mena, del partido judicial de Villarcayo y provincia de Burgos, y la que floreció en la ciudad de Córdoba, cuyos caballeros aparecen nombrados en las historias entre los más antiguos del linaje. El progenitor de esta rama fué Juan Pérez de R., conquistador de Córdoba y premiado en el repartimiento de aquella ciudad con las casas de la Cuesta de San Benito. No se ha conservado noticia de su procedencia, pero por varios documentos se sabe que es de las Vascongadas. ...
