I Rinaldeschi furono un'antichissima famiglia di Prato, già molto potente nel secolo XII, possedendo palazzi, torri e loggie in detta città e contando in quel tempo un buon numero di cavalieri fra i suoi membri. Seguirono la parte ghibellina e in una delle molte zuffe colla parte avversaria furono nel 1343 cacciati dalla città. Alcuni si stabilirono in Firenze; fra questi Naldino di Cione, che fattosi di popolo e cangiato il nome della famiglia da Rinaldeschi con l'attuale famiglia e mutata l'arme, risedè più volte nel magistrato di Priori. Dei suoi discendenti molti altri occuparono le prime cariche della Reppubblica Fiorentina, cosicchè ottennero con Rescritto Sovrano del 24 maggio 1751 di essere iscritti al patriziato per il Quartiere S.
