En la villa de Ripoll, del partido judicial de Puigcerdá y provincia de Gerona, tuvo su cuna, y tomó su nombre, este linaje. Mosén Jaime Febrer hace mención de uno de sus más antiguos caballeros. Se llamaba Guillermo R., era noble geronés, y de Gerona pasó a servir al rey don Jaime I de Aragón en la conquista de Valencia. Mostró su arrojo en la toma de dicha ciudad y de la de Játiva y se distinguió por su constante vigilancia en los puestos de peligro que se le encomendaron, permaneciendo en vela día y noche atento a las posibles sorpresas del enemigo. Pintaba en su escudo un gallo en actitud de cantar, queriendo manifestar con tal empresa su espíritu vigilante. Obtuvo muchas recompensas en premio de sus servicios y dejó sucesores en Valencia. Juan, Berenguer y otro Guillermo R., también catalanes y originarios del solar de la villa de R., acompañaron a don Jaime I de Aragón en la conquista de Mallorca, quedando heredados allí en el repartimiento y división general de la isla que se hizo en el año 1232. Fueron los fundadores de la familia solariega de este apellido en Mallorca con casas en Sóller, Deyá, Bunyola y otros pueblos. Bernardino R., como representante de la villa de Bunyola, juró obediencia y vasallaje al rey aragonés don Alfonso III, el 2 de diciembre de 1285. Francisco y Bernardo R., en nombre de la ciudad de Palma y Poncio R., como diputado de la villa de Bunyola, reconocieron por rey y señor de Mallorca, jurándole fidelidad, a don Pedro IV de Aragón, en 1343. ...
