Nobility crown RobainaApellido canario, de origen portugués. Individuos de este apellido se encontraron entre los primeros pobladores de Pájara y La Oliva, en la isla de Fuerteventura, desde el siglo XVI. Más tarde se trasladan a Gran Canaria, donde se asientan y se extienden por otras islas del Archipiélago. En 1839 Julián Robayna y Marshall solicitó y obtuvo del Ayuntamiento de Santa Cruz de Tenerife, cubrir a su costa el flanco izquierdo del barranco de Aceite, a cambio de los solares que resultasen, dando lugar a la calle llamada de Robayna, entre la de Castillo y Méndez Núñez. También tuvo a su cargo la construcción del hoy Teatro Guimerá, cuyo arquitecto fue Don Manuel Oráa y Alcorche, que se inauguró el 26 de febrero de 1851. Gumersindo Robayna, hijo de aquél, fue autor del escudo que remata el frontis del Teatro. Gumersindo que nació en Santa Cruz en 1820, perfeccionó sus estudios artísticos en Madrid y París, realizando obras pictóricas de gran mérito que se conservan en el Ayuntamiento de Santa Cruz. Falleció en 1898, dejando un hijo: Teodomiro Robayna Marrero, nacido en 1864, cofundador del Museo Municipal en 1900 y luego su director, que dejó descendencia. Su hijo Don Gumersindo Robayna Galván, Doctor en Medicina, fue Alcalde de Santa cruz de Tenerife desde el 6 de diciembre de 1955 al 14 de enero de 1960.
