La casa de R., tan célebre en Aragón, Valencia y Cataluña, tuvo su origen en Mompeller, hermosa e importante ciudad de Francia, cuyos señores se entroncaron con la casa real de Aragón por el casamiento de Doña María, señora de Mompeller, con el rey Don Pedro II de Aragón. Y era la casa de R. deuda tan cercana de dichos señores, que la reina Doña María por su testamento otorgado en el año 1200, en la eventualidad de que sus hijos y el conde de Cominges no dejasen sucesion, instituyó por heredero del señorío de Mompeller a Don Ramon de R., y despues de este a su hermano Arnaldo de R. Guillen de R., vástago ilustre de esta ilustrísima casa, fué uno de los héroes que mas se distinguieron en las guerras contra los moros del reino de Valencia. El particular aprecio y alta confianza que el Conquistador hacía de Guillen, ya por su parentesco, ya por las relevantes pruebas que le habia dado de talento, prudencia, lealtad y valentía, se desprende de una real cédula. El mismo Guillen fué enviado de embajador por el rey Don Jaime, para tratar el casamiento de su hijo el infante Don Jaime con la hija del conde soberano de Saboya. Obtuvo tambien Guillen el alto cargo de virey de Mompeller o de lugarteniente del rey Don Jaime en dicha ciudad. Fué despues nombrado adelantado del reino de Murcia, en cuyo importante y elevado cargo le sucedió su hijo Don Ramon de R. ...
