Ebbe antenati illustri, fra cui un Oberto, podestà di Milano nel 1252; un Gherardo, iscritto nell'Albo dei dottori e giudici di Piacenza nel 1230, pretore di Bobbio; Giandomenico, referendario ducale in Cremona, che contribuì a fondarvi un monastero di agostiniane, in cui entrarono tre sue figlie. Appartennero alla famiglia: monsignor Alessandro, colto prelato, vescovo di Bobbio, poi nel 1700 di Borgo S. Donnino, insigne diplomatico, che primo contribuì ad avviare nella diplomazia il cardinale. Alberoni; il canonico Giovanni, che riscattò la famosa Tavola Traiana, trovata negli scavi di Velleia.
