Antica ed assi nobile famiglia, oriunda da Pralormo, terra del Contado d'Asti, la quale, a causa dei soliti fenomeni di fonetica dialettale e ad errori di tradizione manoscritta, compare nei testi alle volte come Rovera, altre come Rovere ed altre ancora come Roveri. In ogni modo, l'origine di tal cognominizzazione, al dir di illustri genealogisti, andrebbe ricercata in un soprannome basato, a sua volta, sul vocabolo latino "rubus" (= rovo, pruno, spino).
