Apellido castellano. Del valle de su nombre, en la provincia de Burgos. Pasó a la conquista de Cuenca, donde fundó nueva Casa. Se extendió por toda la Península pasando a Canarias y América. Martín Galíndez de S., pariente mayor, edificó en sus tierras siete casas y torres fuertes, y acompañó en el año 844, al Rey Don Ramiro I de León en la batalla de Clavijo. En Canarias los S. proceden de la isla de la Palma y el Hierro; generalmente este apellido estuvo unido al de Fernández. Los Fernández S. se destacaron mucho en aquella isla, donde fueron Gobernadores de las armas, regidores y alféreces mayores, durante varias generaciones, de su Cabildo. También enlazaron con descendientes del último rey guanche de Tenerife, por matrimonio con Doña Dominga Chirino, hija del Coronel Don Domingo Chirino, Marqués de la Fuente de Las Palmas y de su esposa Doña Ana del Houo y Mesa, nombrados en la genealogía del apellido Castro, casó con Don Juan S. de Frías Benítez de Lugo, Conde del Valle de S.. De este matrimonio hubo cinco hijos: Emilio, Sofía, Concepción, Cristóbal y Ana De S. y Chirino. Emilio S. y Chirino, casó con Adelaide Bérriz y Román, nacida en Santa Cruz de Tenerife en 1822. Tuvieron dos hijos: Alonso y Juana S. y Bérriz. Casó ésta con Don Ricardo Gutiérrez Cámara, ex-Gobernador Civil y ex-Delegado de Hacienda de la Provincia. Lope García de S. y de la Cerca, V del nombre, nació por el año 1204 y fue hijo póstumo de Lope García de S. y de doña Mayor Martínez de la Cerca.
