Nobility crown SamaritaneAntica ed assai illustre famiglia, originaria dell'Emilia Romagna, di chiara ed avita virtù, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. L'origine di tal cognominizzazione, al dir di illustri genealogisti, andrebbe ricercata in un matronimico, ovvero nel personale "Samaritana", appartenuto, probabilmente, alla madre del capostipite. Ai tempi di Federico Barbarossa, infatti, viveva un Matteo, di Rodolfo, ambasciatore per la città di Bologna al Congresso della Pace di Costanza. Tal Matteo ebbe un'unica figliola, di nome Samaritana, la quale andò in sposa ad un Uguccione da Montefiore, con il quale procreò un figlioletto di nome Matteo, che, dal nome della madre, prese il cognome di Samaritani. Costui, inoltre, fu avo del poeta Ranieri Samaritane, nato da Lambertino Samaritane, che nel 1267 fu Podestà di Cento e della Pieve e nel 1268 di Ravenna.
