Baldo fu della famiglia Cantagallina di Perugia e aveva fissato la sua dimora in Urbino nel 1450 circa, ma nella nuova dimora mai usò il proprio cognome. Questo Ser Ludovico sposò la contessa Maria Galli, ultima discendente di nobilissima e illustre famiglia urbinate, la quale oltre a portargli in dote un cospicuo patrimonio e un magnifico palazzo, gli portò il feudo comitale di Poggio Santa Maria, come risulta dal rogito del 9 agosto 1599, col quale egli acquistò il suddetto feudo con il titolo di conte di Poggio Santa Maria.
