Cette famille appartient à la ville du Cheylard, où ses premiers auteurs exerçaient la charge de notaire. Elle se divisait en plusieurs branches. 1° Etienne Sanial qui vivait au commencement du XVIIIème siècle, laissa demoiselle Marie Penel, sa femme, deux fils: Antoine Sanial, l'auteur de la branche de Chaillans, seigneur de Saint-Cierge, de Chayllans ou Chalhant et du Bay (Château situé dans la dite paroisse de Saint-Clerge); Joseph Sanial du Bay, habitant successivement le Cheylard en 1780 et la ville de Tournon en 1790, lequel fut père de Jacques Emile, nommé en 1790 au testament de son aîeule. 2° Etienne, second notaire au Cheylard qui, de Marianne Grange eut deux fils; Etienne, premier auteur de la branche de la Chava, sieur de la Chava; 3° Jean-Louis Saniall du Fay, né vers 1743, docteur en médecine, et juge de paix du Chaylard en 1795, épousa le 19 novembre 1770 Marguerite-Paule d'Auvenas; ils eurent de nombreux enfants, entre autres: Louis Hercule Jean Baptiste Albert Sanial, qui se fixa à Nyons à la suite du mariage qu'il contracta, en 1811, avec demoiselle Rose-Adèle Orange, fille d'un négociant de cette ville. 4° Alphonse-Louis-Joseph-Auguste Sanial du Fay, né le 21 juin 1877, qui fut en 1801 greffier du tribunal de justice de paix établi au Chaylard. Il épousa demoiselle Marie-Antoinette et en eut deux filles: Marie-Marguerite-Louise-Augusta, née le 16 août 1807, et Marie-Louise-Félicie-Amici-Augusta, née le 29 avril 1809. ...
