Nobile famiglia di Camerino, ma oriunda da Fermo. Forse è una branca dell'omonima famiglia fermana e maceratese, cosa che non si è ancora potuto stabilire con certezza. Savino Sanromani, sulla fine del 1700 si trasferì da Fermo a Camerino avendo sposato una donna di Casa Mariani. Egli fu dunque il capostipite della famiglia in Camerino. Mortagli la prima moglie sposò Elisabetta Missini di Orvieto, vedova del marchese Alessandro Sigismondo Bandini di Camerino. Dalla prima moglie ebbe Giuseppe (1803-1876). Questi il 17 aprile 1816 fu creato, da Ferdinando IV re delle Due Sicilie, cavaliere di Costantino Magno; con ampio Breve di Leone XII del 21 gennaio 1825 egli con tutti i suoi discendenti maschi in infinito fu creato conte palatino; e nel 1856 fu aggregato con tutta la famiglia alla Nobiltà di Camerino.
