I Novara discendono dal celebre architetto militare Bartolomeo Ploti da Novara, che costruì il meraviglioso castello estense. Celebre è pure Domenico Maria Novara, matematico e astronomo, morto nel 1514. Il duca di Mantova creò conti di Odolengo i Novara nel 1635 ma essi vendettero il feudo ai Gozzani nel 1688.
