Nobility crown SantjoanMuy principal y de notoria nobleza fue la familia S. radicada en Mallorca desde su conquista por el rey aragonés don Jaime I. En aquella empresa acompañaron a dicho monarca Berengario, Pedro y Bernardo de S., oriundos de Aragón, probablemente, quienes fueron heredados en aquella isla en premio a sus servicios. Al primero se le asignó, en el reparto general de las tierras, la alquería "Buclus", de cinco yugadas, en el término de Inca; el segundo quedó establecido en Petra, y el tercero formó parte de la comitiva del rey, siendo premiado con largueza. En 1310 era gobernador de aquel reino Berengario de S. Juan de S. intervino en la confirmación de los fueros y privilegios de Mallorca, otorgada por don Jaime III el 9 de enero de 1332, y el 5 de junio juró obediencia y vasallaje a don Pedro IV, en unión de Berengario de S. y de otros caballeros. Por el estado de hijosdalgo fueron jurados de la ciudad y reino de Mallorca los siguientes: Berengario de S., en 1376 y 1387; Hugo de S., en 1398 y 1437, y Guillermo de S., en 1401, 1407 y 1425. Aunque el historiador mallorquín, don Joaquín María Bover, dice que la familia catalana de S. procedió de una rama de la de Mallorca que pasó a Cataluña y que se comprueba por el título de nobleza que el 20 de febrero de 1694 concedió el rey Carlos II al mallorquín Hugo de S. y Alzina. ...
