I Mozzatti - oriundi dal villaggio di Sardagna sopra Trento - pare abbiano, nella prima metà del XVI secolo, smesso questo cognome per assumere quello attuale. L'origine quindi dei membri di detta famiglia si vuole comune a quella dei Mozzi o Mozzati, che nel XII secolo si sarebbero rifugiati, assieme ad altre famiglie ghibelline toscane, nel Perginese (Valsugana).
