Domingo de Lizaso trata de la casa de S., calificándola como originaria de los primeros pobladores de la villa guipuzcoana de Usúrbil, perteneciente al partido judicial de San Sebastián, y afirmando que siempre se distinguió por su valor y firmeza en conservarla contra las ambiciones enemigas y en la defensa de sus términos, fueros, prerrogativas, honores y privilegios. De su antigüedad es prueba el haberse hallado caballeros de este linaje en la batalla de las Navas de Tolosa en el año 1212 y haber asistido también a la del Salado en ayuda el Rey de Castilla Alfonso XI. Asimismo prestaron los S. buenos servicios a los Reyes Católicos.
